As summer is ending the clinic has lots of enquiries. Many of us are concerned that we may have caught more than just the sun on holiday!
As holidays abroad become more popular we are enjoying the beaches and resorts of other European countries. However, people returning from their holiday often worry that casual sex they had whilst on holiday may have resulted in them getting an STD.
Lots of holiday resorts in Europe and the UK have high levels of STD’s. Some of these are ‘hotspots’ for Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea etc. People having casual sex are at risk of catching these infections, plus Herpes,Syphilis, HIV and the Genital wart virus.
Those that may have holidayed further afield in Thailand, Malaysia, Asia, Africa, Caribbean and Eastern Europe, have a risk of catching viruses such as HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C too, if they have had casual sex without a condom.
Traditionally, 18-30 year olds have had an increased risk of STD’s if they have unprotected sex. However, increasingly an extra ‘at risk’ group are people aged 35-50 years old.
Some people may well catch a STD and have no symptoms or any sign of it. The STD becomes a stealth operator, passing from one person to another unnoticed.
Wearing a condom and having safe-sex reduces the chance of catching a STD. If you have had casual sex without one, we recommend you have a STD test.
Our tests are excellent and as recommended by the British Association of Sexual Health and HIV. Results are available in 24 hours often. Our tests are at a very reasonable and competitive price, AND include an appointment with a Specialist in Sexual Health.
