Many people are unaware that HIV infection is a significant health problem in the UK today. Over 30 years ago the first recognised cases of AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome) were found in the USA.
AIDS is caused by the virus HIV. Worldwide, there are approximately 30 million people living with HIV. In the UK it is estimated that there are more than 100 000 people living with HIV.
HIV treatment has seen major advances. If HIV is detected and treated, it is not always life threatening, but can be seen as a manageable, chronic, life-long disease. The major cause of death is due to late detection of HIV and its sequelae.
It is estimated that in the UK a quarter of people with HIV do not know that they have it. Early diagnosis is really important and really easy to arrange.
We offer excellent HIV tests in our clinic. Some of these tests can give you very quick results. These rapid tests can help make a diagnosis more quickly and reduce the time you need to wait for a result. Sadly, these tests are not widely available on the NHS at the moment. Please enquire to arrange your HIV test at our clinics.
