HIV-POSITIVE PATIENT GIVEN A COURT ORDER

15th September 2014
No Comments

A Judge in Seattle recently served an order on a patient with HIV to stop knowingly spreading the infection, having infected 8 people in 4 years.
He knew he had the virus and had been advised on how to have safe sex to protect his partners from the infection. The judgement required this patient receive counselling and that he protect future partners from getting the infection. A jail sentence could follow if he does not comply. This decision was very controversial. A Director of Public Health in Seattle explained that this had been done to try and protect the public’s health. Some people think that it is criminalising sexual behaviour. What are your views?

Many people every year are diagnosed with HIV in the UK. Most are well and do not know they are infected, until they are offered a test. Heterosexual, homosexual and bisexual people can get the HIV infection through having sex without a condom with an infected partner or casual contact. Sexual Health professionals hope that more widespread HIV testing will pick up infections earlier, so that the HIV infection can be treated and patients can stay well for longer.

We offer overnight HIV tests at our private clinic. We provide the test recommended by the British HIV Association, counselling before the test, professional doctor-led care and advice. The basic HIV test is £99.

SEX and SUPERBUGS

Amongst sexual health doctors, concerns have grown over Gonorrhoea becoming drug resistant (this means that an infection is difficult to treat, as many antibiotics do not kill the Gonorrhoea). Gonorrhoea is a bacteria that can grow in the genital area, urethra, cervix, womb, fallopian tubes, rectum and throat. Symptoms can be silent, but the long term effects of Gonorrhoea devastating.Untreated Gonorrhoea can result in infertility and chronic pain in men and women. Early testing is important and a new treatment regime. It is hoped that this may slow Gonorrhoea types changing further, in order to escape being killed by antibiotics.

Finding out if you have Gonorrhoea early is very important. If you think you may be at risk of getting a STD it is best to test!

We provide STD tests with results available in less than 24 hours. We are able to treat infections quickly and correctly in the doctor-led clinic.

SEXTEMBER!

9th September 2014
No Comments

As summer is ending the clinic has lots of enquiries. Many of us are concerned that we may have caught more than just the sun on holiday!

As holidays abroad become more popular we are enjoying the beaches and resorts of other European countries. However, people returning from their holiday often worry that casual sex they had whilst on holiday may have resulted in them getting an STD.

Lots of holiday resorts in Europe and the UK have high levels of STD’s. Some of these are ‘hotspots’ for Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea etc. People having casual sex are at risk of catching these infections, plus Herpes,Syphilis, HIV and the Genital wart virus.

Those that may have holidayed further afield in Thailand, Malaysia, Asia, Africa, Caribbean and Eastern Europe, have a risk of catching viruses such as HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C too, if they have had casual sex without a condom.

Traditionally, 18-30 year olds have had an increased risk of STD’s if they have unprotected sex. However, increasingly an extra ‘at risk’ group are people aged 35-50 years old.

Some people may well catch a STD and have no symptoms or any sign of it. The STD becomes a stealth operator, passing from one person to another unnoticed.

Wearing a condom and having safe-sex reduces the chance of catching a STD. If you have had casual sex without one, we recommend you have a STD test.

Our tests are excellent and as recommended by the British Association of Sexual Health and HIV. Results are available in 24 hours often. Our tests are at a very reasonable and competitive price, AND include an appointment with a Specialist in Sexual Health.

A BIT ABOUT SYPHILIS

16th June 2014
No Comments

Due to a huge relative increase in the number of Syphilis cases in Wales recently, we are focussing on this infection today. Many people know little about it and don’t think it is something that is easy to catch these days.

Syphilis is a bacteria which is easily passed from one person to another through sex without a condom. Anyone who is sexually active can get it. Both men and women, young and old, homosexual, heterosexual or bisexual.

You can have and pass Syphilis on without knowing you have it. Symptoms can be mild and you may not notice them or realise what they are. You may just feel as though you are fighting a cold off or a bit run down.

Syphilis can be passed on during sex and by skin-to skin contact with someone who has sores made by Syphilis. The infection can spread by vaginal, oral, anal sex and by sharing sex toys.

It is possible for a pregnant woman to pass the infection to her unborn baby.

If the infection remains untreated it can start to cause very serious damage to the heart, brain, eyes, internal organs, skin, bones and nervous system. At this stage syphilis could be fatal.

Syphilis testing is easy and quick. Syphilis can be treated once it is picked up. If you think you are at risk then take the test today. It’s best to know you have the infection, as then it can be treated well.

We offer an easy Syphilis test that is recommended in the UK and results return overnight. We hope you can face the next day with a smile on your face knowing you have the all clear.

Our easy, reliable, quick test and doctor appointment costs just £89. Why not take the joint Syphilis and HIV test at the reduced cost for a limited time of £120?

CONTACT 07531194797 to book a Syphilis test.

SYPHILIS EXPLOSION

13th June 2014
No Comments

Over recent weeks the number of cases of the STD called Syphilis has exploded. This disease is sexually transmitted, by having oral, vaginal or anal sex without a condom. You don’t have to have ‘full sex’ to catch this infection. It can be passed on by sexually active men and women of any age and sexual orientation, gay, straight or bi. We have noticed a large rise in the number of homosexual men, bisexual men and young heterosexual people in Wales infected with Syphilis.

When you catch syphilis you may have no symptoms or changes to your body that you notice.

Sometimes you may find a spot, mark or ulcer on your genitals. You may feel unwell or have a rash. Sometimes you may get swollen glands. With the recent infections in Wales, many patients had no symptoms at all.

It is easy to test for syphilis. All that is needed is a small blood sample. This is sent off for specialist tests. Our private tests are carried out in London and results return in 24 hours.

Once found, this infection can be treated quickly and effectively. It is important that syphilis infections are treated, as it can become a very, very serious disease. It can cause damage to most organs of the body and destroy skin, cartiledge and bone.

There has been a link noticed between certain website use and these syphilis infections.

If you have used fabguys.com, fabswingers.com or Grindr we recommend you get tested for this infection as soon as possible.

Our private Syphilis test and a Consultation with a doctor costs £89.

INTERNET DATING AND STD’S

12th March 2014
No Comments

Date@chlamydia.com……..Match@gonorrhoea.com

With our busy lives and work or family commitments, meeting people can be a challenge. We may not have time to set aside leisure time for ourselves and so meeting potential companions is tricky!

Social media and the internet can be a useful way of keeping in touch with our friends. Many companies have cleverly introduced us to the idea of meeting our ‘match’ or finding ‘harmony’ online, as there are ‘plenty of fish in the sea’. Dating websites can be useful. However, increasingly sexual health doctors are finding links between dating websites and an increased chance of catching a STD.

One person on a dating site with a STI can pass it on to several ‘dates’ within the course of a single week or month. This can then lead to newly infected people passing STDs to their new matches, and on and on it goes. With this phenomenon, it is easy to see how STD’s spread like wildfire.

STD’s undetected can lead to serious health conditions. The sooner they are found the less likely they are to cause long term illness.
We recommend you get tested for STD’s if you use dating websites. Our clinic is non-judgemental and our priority is to look after your sexual health.
